The
Academy
The Club launched the Sailing Academy in 1993
to promote and develop sailing in Wellington.
As a full-time professionally run sail training
facility, the Academy provides a unique resource
to the Wellington region. The Academy operates
from its rooms on the Clyde Quay Boat Harbour,
at 115 Oriental Parade, and the two Muir 8.2 metre
keelboats, purpose-built for sail training, are
berthed right outside the door. This step-on,
step-off facility maximises sailing time.
Accommodating ages 8 to 80 plus, the Academy
has experience in running an innovative and comprehensive
range of sailing options. An increasing number
of organisations have been making use of the Academy
to provide Team Building exercises. Some of the
key requirements in the sport of sailing are communication
and teamwork, making sailing the ideal vehicle
to bring out the essential qualities needed in
a successful team.
Several hundred participants have now undertaken
corporate sailing activities through the Academy.
These activities range from social sailing through
to fully structured professionally facilitated
team building sessions.
