Working as a steward on a superyacht can be an exciting and rewarding career choice. No matter if you choose to work for just a season or two or stay on long term, as a crew member you will get to travel the world and be richly compensated. Learn the education and certification you need to work as a steward or stewardess on a luxury superyacht.
In order to work on the crew of a yacht you need basic training. This includes the STCW95 Basic Safety Training certificate. Depending on the position you want you will also need further training to really excel at your job. Deckhands can get hands on training on the yacht while engineers need more extensive training and certification. On larger yachts you may be able to be trained while you are at sea, but it is in your best interest to complete your training before you embark on your first cruise. This will give you the experience and knowledge to do the best job you can and become a valuable crew member on a luxury superyacht.
A steward or stewardess is responsible for many areas on the yacht. Your main responsibilities will include making sure the guests' needs are met, the interior of the yacht is clean, and the hospitality offered by the superyacht is five star. You'll need to be familiar with all aspects of the hotel and hospitality industry because you will be in charge of your guests' comfort. This is where a course in hospitality is essential. You can find course offered all over the world with crew quarters offered at different rates and settings.
One of the most important aspects of your job as a steward on a superyacht will be the correct setting of the table. You will need to know how to set a formal dinner table, a basic breakfast setting, as well as a casual luncheon. Most courses also include the basics of the American/Family/Russian, and French service styles. Not only will you learn the basics in table setting, but also how to make each setting unique. Table art is a vital part of a steward's repertoire. This is one of the things which set five star service apart from every day. On a luxury superyacht your guests will be expecting the best, and well crafted table art is just part of this expectation.
Laundry and housekeeping services are also part of a steward's job. With hands on training in five star laundry and housekeeping services you will be prepared to meet your guests demanding expectations. This includes deep cleaning their cabins and the interior of the yacht, tending to their laundry needs, and presenting their rooms each day in a pleasing and well kept manner. Like table art, making a bed can be an art form. Setting up their ensuite bathrooms takes knowledge and flair. A well taught steward course will teach you the skills to set your level of service above the bar.
Other skills you may learn include wine pairing, creative cocktail creation, and gourmet coffee crafting. As a steward or stewardess on a luxury superyacht you will be expected to give your guests five star service with a smile. Learn the skills you need with a hands on course that teaches you how to do your job in an exceptional manner, and start your career as a crew member on a superyacht on the right path.
