Your Weight and Living on Board
Maintaining a healthy balance of food and exercise can be difficult. First you will be fed three good meals a day. The ingredients can be top notch, there will be snacks, and good ones at that, constantly available. There will also be copious amounts of booze in the crew fridge and at the local pubs and bars.
Many crew, particularly the interior crew, have found that putting on weight is almost inevitable. For interior crew there is little space to exercise and frequently little time. Ironing doesn’t exactly burn off the calories. Be aware of this potential danger. Ask the chef to prepare low fat, healthy meals, easily done if he or she is any good. Make sure that you drink plenty of water and eat lots of fresh fruit.
Watch your health carefully for you will often be under stress and it is easy to become run down when you are over worked. Try to take a good multi vitamin supplement. Visiting your family doctor for a check up is not quite so simple when he is 4000 miles away. Take care of yourself. You’re valuable.
