Female Crew
Not all that long ago, female captains were unheard of now there are an increasing number of yachts captained by women or even crewed with a majority of female crew. They are entering into the field in increasing numbers and many have excellent reputations.
Women are certainly no longer restricted to the galley and interior. More and more are working as deck hands, mates, captains, even engineers. However, opting to make yachting a long term career is a tough choice for a woman. Unlike other careers where infants can be left with carers or nannies while mummy is at work for the day, a mummy who works on yachts is frequently away for weeks at a stretch. Unfortunately when the biological clock starts ticking for the woman it usually means leaving her career behind unless she has an extremely understanding partner. Most women enter the field in the capacity of purser, stewardess and/or cook or chef.
There is a great demand for female crew, in particular as stewardesses, cooks and chefs. This is partly to do with the fact that crew accommodations are the way they are and the chef usually ends up rooming with the stewardess.
