Do I Need a Foreign Language?
There is no doubt that the ability to speak more than one language is an asset the question is what language?
If your boat is based in France, French is certainly helpful, the same applies to Spain, a good grasp Spanish will get you out of a muddle but what about the guests?
The boat is not always about where it is based it is about the guests onboard too. And these guests can be French, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Turkish, German, Arabic, Chinese, Russian to name but a few. And the ability to communicate with the guests or owner in their own language is a major asset.
Currently the most valued languages in the field are Russian, Arabic, German, French, Greek and Spanish but this does vary with the trends. It is important to remember that not all guests are wealthy English speaking Americans.
