Donna Morris was recently interviewed by the editor of Ocean Magazine, the premier publication in Australia for the Superyacht industry.

"New superyacht school offering intermediate level crew training"

A new Sydney-based superyacht crew training school will offer an advanced level of training, which its founder Donna Morris believes fills a gaping hole in the training on offer to aspiring crew members.  Course operator and principal trainer Donna Morris, who has extensive experience as a chief stewardess/purser on five large yachts in addition to a vocational training background, said Superyacht Onboard Hospitality Training will meet the demand for an intermediate level of superyacht crew training.

Unlike other superyacht training schools offering "introductory" courses, Superyacht Onboard will focus on a more advanced level of training, suited to mature or hospitality-experienced students who wish to "cross train" to work in the professional yachting industry.

Apart from attending training to equip them with the necessary knowledge and confidence to perform and work effectively onboard a yacht, Morris believes the course could greatly enhance their chances of being selected by Captains.

"I have been training young people (new entrants) into yachting for the past three years and it seems to me, especially since the full force of the global financial crisis has been felt in the industry, that those with something special to offer are the ones making it to the top of the CV pile on the Captain's desk ahead of the rest," said Morris.

"It helps to have a few years under your belt and some demonstrable skills to offer."

Some of Superyacht Onboard's students are already experienced working on superyachts, and Morris finds that the main reason that they are seeking the training is to "up-skill".

"The training that students receive with Superyacht Onboard Hospitality Training is very practical.  We cover the theory, the rules, the ergonomics, the techniques and then the practice - with real food of course!"
